In this instalment of ‘meet the team’, we get to know our Client Services Director - Sports and Groups, Eric Edwards a little better.

WHAT MADE YOU JOIN VENTUR?

I first joined as a retail leisure travel consultant – I’d worked in domestic, corporate and leisure travel previously, so the industry has always been in my blood!

I moved over to the sports and group team in 2000 and have held several roles before moving up to director. I really thrive on being able to play a part in a team’s journey to succeeding in a competition. The reality is that all group travel comes with its own challenges – whether that’s moving a film crew around locations or arranging a company wide conference on the other side of the world.

This type of travel can change at the drop of a hat and I’ve always been impressed by Ventur’s ability to run with this; our relationships with not only our customers, but our partners across the world in hotel groups, airports, coach companies and airlines, keeps everything ticking smoothly.

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE NOW?

As well as overseeing our team of sports and group consultants, I’m part of the senior leadership team, allowing me to contribute to the wider business.

I’m also still very much involved in some account management for customers such as the England and Wales Cricket Board; as well as supporting my team with travel arrangements for them, I work closely with the customers themselves, analysing trips, understanding the type of solutions which may work for them and ensuring we’re always one step ahead of what they’re looking for.

A typical day for me can include anything from a meeting about introducing new technology to our customers, supporting my team with booking queries or heading out to see a customer for a travel review. It’s very true that two days are never the same and due to the nature of travel, it rarely stops when the clock hits 6pm!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOB?

The challenge. It’s easy to assume organising sports or group travel means one collective trip, but within that we often have teams flying at different times, players being drafted in, league changes and more.

Australia as it’s such a diverse destination and a great culture, however for a laid-back holiday it’s Santorini every time.

I really enjoy flying and someday would like to learn to fly an aircraft

How do you relax?

I enjoy gardening and days at the coast
